Chojam Rabney Festival - Popular Festivals in Bhutan

Chojam Rabney Festival is an important festival for Tang valley in Bumthang. The name ‘Chojam’ was originally derived when Yidam Khorlo Dompo (presently one of the most important relics of the temple) was brought down to the village. The local people noticed that statue’s expression looked sad and got its name as Chojam Lhakhang. The main purpose of building the temple was to subdue the local demons to prevent them from destroying the Lhakhang and to ensure prosperity in the village.

This festival is celebrated for five days and financially supported by villagers of Tang valley. Variety of mask dances are performed during the festival including Yak cham, Lhamgyem, Tempa Phuensum (which is said to have originated from Tibet) and all these dances are performed by monks, the local villagers and students.

Festival season: November / December
Venue: Chojam Lhakhang, Tang valley, Bumthang
