Categorization of Hotels and Resorts in Bhutan
Star categorization of hotels for Bhutan is relatively new concept so there could be minor variation in standard while comparing with international classifications but very often travelers get pleasantly surprised with quality, comfort of even regular 3 star hotels available under standard tariff set by Tourism Council of Bhutan and the level of their personalized services . At all tourist destinations, there are accommodation establishments approved by Tourism Council of Bhutan, well meeting the expectation of international visitors. Situated conveniently in the heart of city or around spectacular landscape, Bhutanese hotels maintain government prescribed standard offering reasonably decent, clean, comfortable accommodation and delicious food.
Almost all the hotels available in Bhutan are built in traditional Bhutanese architecture coupled with modern amenities. Hotels in Western & Central Bhutan (Thimphu, Paro, Punakha, Wangduephodrang, Bumthang) and Southern town of Phuentsholing are of reasonably superior standard however when one ventures into eastern part of the country (viz. Mongar, Trashigang & Samdrup Jongkhar), the lodging gets more rudimentary but since past few years, there has been consistent enhancement in quality and standard, in this region as well.
Over the past few years a few international opulent hotel chains namely Aman, Six Senses, Taj, COMO and Le Meridien have established a few luxury and deluxe hotels & resorts in major towns & countryside in Bhutan. These hotels and resorts appropriately maintain international standard of comfort and luxury absolutely blended with local Bhutanese art, culture and tradition.
In order to make it easier for the prospective Bhutan visitors to understand the differences between each category of hotels and resorts we have classified accommodation establishments into four categories; Luxury, Deluxe, Superior and Standard considering various factors (price, overall amenities, level of services and location).
