Set on two acres of tranquil land in the village of Hatey, amid the pristine beauty of Bhutan’s fabulous Haa Valley, Soednam Zingkha Heritage Lodge offers a deeply authentic and immersive Bhutanese experience for travellers seeking peace, culture, and connection with local life.

This immaculately restored centuries-old traditional Bhutanese home has been lovingly converted into a heritage lodge without altering its original superstructure. Built in classic Bhutanese style, the three-storeyed house features earthen walls adorned with hand-painted murals and traditional wall paintings, seamlessly blending historic character with contemporary comfort.

Surrounded by evergreen pine forests and set beneath the shadows of snow-capped mountains, the lodge is nestled within Hatey village, home to around 60 households and 200 residents. The name Soednam Zingkha poetically translates to “the jewel of good fortune resting upon a pond.” Historically, the house itself was known as Zingkha, regarded as a prosperous household, with the lady of the home fondly remembered as “Zingkha Mii-aum”, the nurturing mother figure of the community.

The lodge offers 15 thoughtfully designed rooms, each reflecting traditional Bhutanese architecture and décor, enhanced with essential modern amenities for a comfortable stay. Warm, inviting interiors and authentic furnishings create a cosy atmosphere that allows guests to experience Bhutanese living at its finest.

Some rooms feature attached bathrooms, while others have shared facilities located conveniently on the same floor—reflecting traditional Bhutanese beliefs, where bathrooms were historically kept separate from living spaces.

While Wi-Fi connectivity is available, televisions are intentionally absent from guest rooms, encouraging digital detox and mindful relaxation. A television is available in the lounge area, where guests may also enjoy documentaries on Bhutan and the Haa Valley.

The lodge’s restaurant focuses exclusively on authentic Bhutanese cuisine, prepared using fresh, locally sourced ingredients. Carefully curated heritage set menus present flavours that appeal to international palates while offering guests the opportunity to savour traditional Haa specialities such as Honetey, Khuli, and Akho, available on request.

A selection of international, regional, and national beverages is also available, including traditional Bhutanese drinks such as Ara—distilled from fermented wheat, maize, or millet—and Bangchang, a fermented grain beverage.

For moments of quiet reflection, guests may visit the beautifully maintained Choedsham (altar room), ideal for meditation or making offerings. The lodge also caters to small conferences, retreats, and brainstorming sessions, offering a peaceful and inspiring environment.
