Paro Heritage Lodges, Homestays, & Farmhouses : The Happiness Farm
Description
Perched on a scenic hilltop in Issukha village, just six kilometres above Chuzom — the confluence point between Paro and Thimphu — The Happiness Farm is Bhutan's first farm-to-table eco-retreat, where happiness is cultivated as literally as it is spiritually. Spread across nearly four acres of terraced land, the farm blends orchards, vegetable gardens, and flower beds into a landscape where productivity and beauty exist in perfect balance, framed by sweeping views of Langka Gonpa, the Dagala mountains, and the verdant valleys below.
The Setting
Located conveniently between Paro and Thimphu and accessible via the narrow road toward Haa, The Happiness Farm offers certified 3-star accommodation that feels worlds away from city life yet remains easily reached from both capitals. The property's hilltop position commands uninterrupted panoramas of surrounding valleys and mountain ridges, while crisp, clean air and the absence of urban noise create conditions for genuine rest and introspection. Seasonal blossoms, beehives, and fruit-laden branches mark the changing rhythms of the year here.
The Rooms
The retreat features 11 cosy guest rooms, each blending rustic Bhutanese charm with contemporary comfort and full modern amenities. Rooms open onto views of the farm and surrounding landscape, providing a living connection to the natural world just outside. The property maintains a non-smoking environment with a no-cooking policy in rooms, preserving the quiet, restorative character of each space.
Farm-to-Table Dining
At the heart of The Happiness Farm lies its farm-to-table philosophy — every meal prepared using vegetables, herbs, and fruits harvested fresh from the land that same day. The on-site restaurant serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner rooted in organic, pesticide-free produce, offering guests a deeply satisfying and wholesome dining experience. The farm's bar rounds out the experience with cocktails and drinks enjoyed against the backdrop of rolling countryside, while campfire evenings with music create memorable nights under Bhutan's open skies.
Experiences & Activities
Guests are invited into a rich programme of nature-based activities that deepen the connection between visitor and land. These range from guided farm tours, fruit picking, egg collecting, honey harvesting, mushroom hunting, tree planting, and cooking sessions to yoga, Buddhist meditation classes, conservation talks, and nature walks. The farm also hosts a first-of-its-kind Fruit Tree Membership Project, allowing both Bhutanese residents and international guests to own Japanese pear, apple, or walnut trees for a specified period — a meaningful way to invest in Bhutan's rural landscape and return to it year after year.
